Real estate sales is not an easy business.  A job gives you an hourly income. As a real estate agent, you are in business for yourself. There are no guarantees. Being a real estate agent is a business venture.

To build your own business you must
     Write your your own business plan. It may include:  
            How to develop your own client base
            Plan and implement your own personal marketing strategy
            Be responsible to yourself for making it happen. You are your own boss. 

You can become a specialist in a specific field. You can also receive certifications for your specialty.  Certifications include a certification for residential sales, ePro is for computer competence, Short sale and foreclosure specialist, working with seniors, etc

Other options.

You do not have to sell real estate to profit from real estate

The career is more than just selling houses. You may prefer working with investors and develop complex transactions. Some agents enjoy working in property management or focus on Office management, transaction coordination, sales training teachers and some become technology gurus.

You may prefer to work solo, or have a partner. Many agents form a team effort. Some teams focus on sales but, some develop their own fix and flip team as an independent business.

Maybe you have been to seminars and other training and want to put your knowledge and skills to work. Many people are making money from some of the less traditional methods and techniques. If you are already familiar with the foreclosure business, flips, options, syndication, probate possibilities; congratulations! As an agent you may use your license for developing own personal or family business and investment portfolio.

What is a referral agent?

A referral agent does not do any marketing. You refer buyers, sellers or investors to my company. When they do business, I can legally pay you a referral fee. It is a very unique income stream.  Do you know anyone with a license that is not working in real estate. They may not know that I can pay them for referrals.
